My Story
I'd always thought that by the time I finished my PhD I would have decided what I wanted to do when I grew up, but all that I had decided was I didn't want to move overseas to find a job and what ever job I did do I didn't want to spend all my time in the lab. With the help of my PhD supervisor I was fortunate enough to secure some short term work with SYFT technologies, but this still involved developing new tests but using a brand new technology! A few months into my first project, there was an opening for someone to coordinate some of the studies, and eventually this evolved into Medical Projects Manager. This role was ideal, it involved a good mixture of patient contact, clinical study organisation, and even some assay development. After a brief stint combining sales with the medical research aspect of my job I moved on and now work for the Canterbury District Health Board. The Respiratory Research group carries out clinical trials in Asthma, COPD, Cystic Fibrosis and other respiratory illnesses. There is also an investigator driven aspect to our work which means I still get to investigate some of the things that intrigue me. Once again this role is a great balance, and always interesting.
I have recently become a mum and am finding a new balance between work and spending time with the baby. I have been amazed at just how much time he takes up.
Favourite BookI don't really have a favourite, but I do enjoy a wide range including Chick Lit, thriller/detective, and adventure.
Favourite MovieLove Actually, and the Princess Bride
