Inaugural scholarship awarded
The Association for Women in the Sciences is excited to see three women benefit from the inaugural Women in STEM Award.
The three awardees are:
- Kajaun Rhind-Reedy, studying a Bachelor of Health Science (Medical Imaging) in Auckland
- Jessica Turner, undertaking a doctoral degree (PhD), major in Computer Science, based in the Waikato
- Kimberley Maxwell, undertaking a doctoral degree (PhD) in Marine Biology, based in Wellington.
The Award is managed on AWIS' behalf by the New Horizons for Women Trust, and the awardees will receive their awards at regional ceremonies later this year.
Thirty two women enrolled in a tertiary STEM qualification applied for the $9,000 award. The initial funds for the award were raised through screenings of the 2017 movie Hidden Figures, which centred around female mathematicians involved in the NASA space programme.
